Body Science, an Australian supplement company, and Violet Crumble, an iconic Australian sweet bar, have joined forces to create a soft, healthy protein bar. It’s an unlikely partnership that seems at odds, much like a PETA-endorsed steakhouse.
Contrary to expectations, it’s not uncommon for the fitness industry to team up with seemingly unhealthy brands. Two prime examples are the Saucony X Dunkin Donuts running shoe, which hit the market just weeks before the prestigious Boston Marathon a few years back, and of course, Maccas sponsoring the Olympics for 41 years until 2020.
Co-branding, like this offering, is a powerful way to leverage the strengths of both brands. In this case, Body Science, a 25-year-old company whose reputation is golden in the fitness industry, joined forces with Violet Crumble, arguably one of Australia’s most loved and enduring sugary treats that started over 100 years ago. The result is a range of soft protein bars with health credentials and a place in most Australian hearts from childhood.
Protein Bar Breakdown
Nutrition-wise, it’s very good. A 55-gram bar delivers 16 grams of protein, six grams of fibre, and 5 grams of carbs, resulting in an enviable 4.5-star health rating. It has a couple of grams of sugar, too.
Taste-wise, opinions vary, obviously, but the consensus among the six or so mates who tested the ones sent to us was, “Not bad, but it still tastes like a protein bar.” And indeed, it does. But there is a hint of that delicious sugary, crumbly honeycomb goodness we remember as kids, but it’s just a hint.
As for texture, the bar holds up pretty well. It’s not as hard or chewy as some protein bars out there. The soft, slightly crumbly texture is reminiscent of the original Violet Crumble and doesn’t leave that chalky aftertaste often associated with protein supplement bars.
Convenience and Practicality
Protein bars are convenient for those who need to boost their protein intake without having to make a shake. Five or six bites, and you’ve got around 200 Calories and 16 grams of protein.
When compared to other protein bars on the market, the BSc Violet Crumble Soft Protein Bar holds its own. Its nutritional profile is competitive and more palatable than many alternatives. However, it’s essential to note that while it offers a good balance of macros, it might not satisfy those with higher protein needs or those who prefer a more natural ingredient list.
Final Verdict
The BSc Violet Crumble Soft Protein Bar is a solid choice for anyone looking to indulge in a sweet treat without straying too far from their fitness goals. Its unique collaboration brings a touch of nostalgia while delivering the necessary nutrients to support an active lifestyle.
