The 2017 World’s Strongest Man set a new world record for the CrossFit WOD, Isabel
Strongman Eddie Hall has smashed CrossFit legend Rich Froning’s record for the WOD (Workout of the Day) Isabel, beating Froning by a considerable margin at the European Championships in Colchester.
Hall completed the WOD in an astonishing 50.9 seconds. Rich Froning Jr. held the fastest time (men’s record) for Isabel with 1:20, although claims have been made that he had unofficially done Isabel in 53 seconds. Regardless, the strongman beat that, too.
Don’t expect to see Hall in any CrossFit box soon, though. He said afterwards, ““Big respect to the CrossFitters. It’s a lot harder than people make out and they get slagged off left, right and centre on social media but I can tell you now looking at these guys (CrossFitters) compete today, I genuinely believe it’s going to be one of the hardest sports on the planet to train for and compete in.”
ISABEL
- For Time
- 30 Snatches (61/43kg)
Isabel is a simple WOD: perform 30 Snatches as fast as possible. Any type of snatch is acceptable (power snatch, full/squat snatch, split snatch). Essentially, you have to get 61kg above your head 30 times as fast as you can.
Hall initially had planned to attempt the GRACE WOD which consists of 30 clean and jerks for time with 61kg/135lbs (for men), but changed this to Isabel, which is a similar workout with less emphasis on technique.
Afterward, Eddie Hall appeared gassed and challenged anyone to have a go at beating his record.“I’ve thrown the gauntlet down. If anyone in the Crossfit world or Strongman world or powerlifting world thinks they can beat that, come and have a go because I guarantee you’ll have a heart attack.”
Hall celebrated with an assisted handstand walk .
