A GREAT SMILE, according to over ¾ of Australians, is one of the ways to feel happier or more attractive*. Whether it’s to attract a partner, feel better about yourself, gain confidence or boost likes on your social media profiles, a great smile can help you on your way. Sure, improving your smile isn’t as easy as say, getting a new haircut but here are three tips to help improve that smile.
DE-FUNK
One cause of bad breath is because of bacteria that grows on the surface of the tongue. To avoid it, try scraping the tongue with either a toothbrush or a tongue scraper. “Poor oral hygiene will lead to gum disease and bad breath. Twice daily brushing and flossing are the two most important factors for maintaining perfect oral hygiene,” advises Dr Mike Anderson, a Specialist Orthodontist. Better breath is a result of combining a good toothbrush, quality paste, and mouth rinse.
WHITEN
If you drink coffee, wine or soda, your teeth have probably seen better days. Lightening them a couple of shades will immediately improve your smile. On the market there are plenty of whitening toothpastes, mouthguards or even strips that grip tightly to the tooth surface so you can pop them on before your workout or while playing basketball. You should consult a dental professional first to find the best option for you.
STRAIGHTEN
Even if you had braces as a teen, there’s still a chance you could move forward to an even more amazing version of yourself. “Teeth can move throughout life, even after previous straightening. Therefore there is often benefit for adults to have their teeth aligned” says Dr Anderson. The great news is you don’t need to have a metallic smile in order to have straight teeth anymore, so say goodbye to conventional orthodontic braces and hello to Invisalign® aligners: customised, 3D manufactured, clear plastic aligners gradually move your teeth to the desirable position. The aligners are to be worn for a minimum of 22 hours per day and removed for eating and drinking. Hardly anyone will be able to see them at a social distance. “Invisalign treatment can be used for a wide range of complex and challenging situations with excellent results. The results of straightening teeth with Invisalign aligners are predictable and often can be achieved in less time than other methods of teeth straightening.” Says Dr Anderson. The Invisalign System is a virtually invisible and non-invasive alignment option that have transformed over 5 million smiles worldwide.
